"Bedbugs had largely been eliminated with DDT, but in the late 1980s, entomologists started being alerted to live infestations. Now, infestations may be approaching the levels of 50 years ago, before DDT was used. Bedbug complaints to 311 doubled between 2006 and 2008 to more than 22,000, according to city records. In 2007 and 2008 alone, the calls jumped 34 percent. The city has attempted a modest education campaign, but other cities have been considerably more aggressive, notably Cincinnati and Toronto."
Bedbugs are seriously my worst fucking nightmare. I’ll admit New York has had a pull on me in the past; all that postpunkBrooklyntronica, all those cousins, all that freedom and anonymity and food and trains and culture and half the people I grew up with live there. But something keeps me here in San Francisco. And that something is well actually a lot of things but mainly $725 a month rent, and NO FUCKING BEDBUGS.
