The Dixie Cups “Iko Iko”
This was one of my top 5 most favoritest songs as a kid, along with Richie Valens’ La Bamba (age 5), Fine Young Cannibals’ She Drives Me Crazy ( approx age 8), Dire Straits’ Walk of Life (approx age 10), and at the holidays, George Winston’s rendition of Pachelbel’s Canon in D, from the December album. My mom had lived in New Orleans before moving to San Francisco and having me, and our living room was often a super fun Mardi Gras full of kids, dogs, neighbors and music like this. Happy Monday.
