You know how Carolyn Keene (author of Nancy Drew novels) was actually a succession of different writers under one name? Pseudonyms were really common in this genre too, because of its prurient nature and also because of the cultural mandate to pick a WASPY-sounding, unobtrusive, aristocratic-yet-palatable-to-the-masses name.
